An established refurbishment contractor is seeking a Freelance Site Manager to oversee the £1.5 million conversion of an existing property into high-quality apartments in Huddersfield. Starting in September 2026, the project is programmed for 30 weeks and offers the opportunity to take ownership of a substantial residential refurbishment from mobilisation through to completion.
As Freelance Site Manager, you will play a central role in maintaining programme momentum, coordinating trades and ensuring the finished apartments meet the required quality standards. This is an excellent assignment for a practical, organised and commercially aware Freelance Site Manager who understands the challenges involved in working within an existing building.
Responsibilities
- Managing the site programme and coordinating subcontractor activities
- Overseeing the refurbishment and conversion works from start to handover
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety and site presentation
- Chairing progress meetings and providing clear project updates
- Monitoring workmanship and resolving technical or sequencing issues
- Managing site records, inductions, permits and quality documentation
- Ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme
- Supporting snagging, commissioning and the final handover process
The successful Freelance Site Manager will ideally have previous experience delivering apartment conversions, residential refurbishments or similar projects valued between £1 million and £5 million. You should hold valid SMSTS, First Aid and CSCS qualifications.
