Growing construction and services group

Opportunity

Ready to take ownership of a finance function and help shape how a growing business operates? An expanding construction and services group is looking for a Financial Controller to strengthen reporting, improve financial processes and support its next stage of growth. Work closely with senior management, make your contribution visible and develop towards Finance Director as your responsibilities and the business grow.

The Role

As Financial Controller, you will oversee two administration assistants who handle day-to-day payments, bringing structure, accuracy and clear oversight across the group. The business uses Xero and has an existing part-time Finance Director. You will help develop the finance function, taking on wider ownership as your knowledge and experience grow.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts and clear performance commentary.
  • Review financial information across the group’s businesses.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital and payment priorities.
  • Supervise the two assistants, organising workloads and checking accuracy.
  • Strengthen reconciliations, reporting routines and financial controls.
  • Improve the use of Xero and establish consistent processes.
  • Give senior management practical financial information to support decisions.

About You

You could be an experienced SME Finance Manager, a Financial Controller in a smaller business, or a strong Management Accountant ready for broader responsibility. You should be confident producing management accounts independently, comfortable with the detail and able to explain financial performance clearly to people outside finance. Construction or related sector experience would be useful. Candidates from other fast-paced SMEs, including recruitment, engineering or operational services, are also encouraged to apply. Xero experience is desirable. Relevant accountancy qualifications are welcome, alongside strong candidates qualified by experience. Evidence of improving processes and supporting colleagues will matter.

What’s in it for you

  • Salary up to £55,000.
  • A broad role with direct access to senior decision-makers.
  • The opportunity to introduce better reporting and controls.
  • Exposure across several businesses within a growing group.
  • Potential progression towards Finance Director.
  • An office-based Financial Controller position in Failsworth, working closely with the team.
