Birmingham City Centre (hybrid) 39.5 hrs per week

Mercato Solutions is a successful software company, specialising in developing scalable cloud environments that allow organisations to work more efficiently and effectively. Due to the continuing expansion and demands of our customers, we are seeking a Data Quality Assistant to work as part of a growing Operations team to manage catalogue and product content that is surfaced on marketplace portals. Successful applicants will work as part of a dedicated data quality team within Operations and use established, powerful in‑house tools to ensure new and existing product data and feeds are up to date and accurately maintained. Data quality is key, and it is essential to maintain high standards of product data integrity across all systems through the various phases of the Data Management process. This role would be suitable for someone who is just starting out in their career and/or has an interest in IT data and IT tech.

As part of the Operations team, the Data Quality Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Processing, quality checking and troubleshooting data feeds along with the existing and new part codes to ensure compliance with established quality standards.
  • The range of tasks includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Loading and managing frameworks sent from the Purchasing team
  • Managing product catalogues
  • CRM system maintenance
  • Creating new product codes followed by updating the content on the website and CRM
  • Providing support to suppliers through the boarding and post‑boarding process on any data feed related enquiries

Key Responsibilities

  • Process catalogue data throughout all stages of the internal Data Management process.
  • Support the data feed process, from onboarding various pricing catalogues, FTP management to ongoing data quality assurance.
  • Gain an in‑depth appreciation of the ways in which processed data transfers through internal systems and processes, using this knowledge to troubleshoot raised issues efficiently, thereby mitigating any negative impact on the business.
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing data comply with client quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct quality checks to maintain high standards of data integrity for catalogue users.
  • Verify record formatting and content to ensure smooth and efficient data processing.
  • Become a data expert, providing assurance on data quality and accuracy.
  • Detect data issues, trends and risks, escalating where necessary.
  • Support suppliers through the boarding and post‑boarding process on any data feed related enquiries.
  • Collaborate with internal and external clients: vendors, suppliers and data providers to manage data updates and revisions.
  • Communicate quality assurance results effectively to management.
  • Support the business with training and visibility of Mercato Data Management (MDM) tooling functionality (feed and product management tooling).
  • Contribute, review and maintain internal process documentation on data processing tools and procedures.
  • Maintain internal and external reporting of the catalogue data.
  • Maintain internal and external reporting of enquiries received from internal and external clients, vendors, suppliers and data providers.
  • Test internal software, systems and workflows to identify and resolve errors.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client documentation and data.
  • Undertake any additional tasks required to meet team objectives and responsibilities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Comfortable with repetitive data tasks while maintaining accuracy.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to confidently and proactively identify and resolve data discrepancies, both independently and in collaboration with relevant parties.
  • Ability to work methodically and efficiently, ensuring high standards of accuracy.
  • Calm under pressure, with a patient approach to data quality management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and accurate data exchange.
  • Professional, mature and self‑motivated, capable of working independently and within a team.
  • Strong decision‑making skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Confident using Microsoft Word and Excel, with a willingness to learn to use new software and technologies.

Desirable Experience & Personal Qualities

  • Experience in data management and data feed support is beneficial but not essential.
  • Understanding of data creation, transfer, manipulation and management.
  • Previous experience in quality checking and/or data entry is advantageous but not required.
  • Logical and process‑driven mindset, with a structured approach appropriate to handling large, as well as smaller, data sets.
  • A self‑starter, eager to develop skills and take ownership of data‑related tasks.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with an ability to analyse trends and propose improvements.
