We’re hiring a detail-oriented linguist with a background in lexical semantics, syntax, or applied linguistics. Someone who’s studied or worked with real-world language data. If you’ve ever analyzed meaning shifts in words across contexts or explored cross-linguistic patterns, we’d love to hear about it.

READ THESE DISCLAIMERS FIRST:

  • This starts as a part-time trial contract: Proven reliable trial candidates will be offered a full-time role with a raise and additional performance-based bonuses.
  • Do not apply if you plan to use AI: We’ve tested it extensively. It does not meet our standards. It slows us down and costs time. This role demands manual work, guided by linguistic attention and critical thinking.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Strong grasp of English writing mechanics
  • Trained in linguistics or currently studying it
  • Willing to learn a highly specific editorial process
  • Available for part-time work with potential for growth

YOU’LL BE DOING THE FOLLOWING

  • Study and internalise our granular writing guidelines. The instructions are detailed and layered—take your time.
  • Be prepared to invest 3 hours in initial training (unpaid but required).
  • Take the article from provided brief all the way to a publishable draft.
  • Proactively and efficiently communicate with a subject matter expert (professional game developers) and source raw first-hand information (both visual and text) for you to polish.
  • Proactively and efficiently communicate with a graphic designer to create custom visuals that can’t be sourced.
  • Source relevant, helpful images (that don’t require subject matter expert's input) to support the writing - “Helpful” means images that explain or simplify the concept for readers and lower their effort to digest the text.
  • You successfully complete 3 pieces without major revisions.
  • Hit a certain quota without losing the standard (we reward those who can do great work efficiently).

BONUS EXPERIENCE: (not required)

  • Beginner experience with Figma or Miro
  • Visual wire-framing / sketching skills
  • Developed video/board games professionally or recreationally
  • Dungeon Master / Game Master for D&D (or other TTRPGs)
  • Have extensive gaming experience

APPLICATION PROCESS:

  • Step 1: Include the following in your reply message:
  • Your location (city, state/province and country)
  • Your email (and WhatsApp if that’s needed to get a hold of you)
  • Describe your background and experience in linguistics
  • Include evidence of your linguistics experience (education, work where you applied it, etc)
  • Include evidence of your gaming / game development + Miro / Figma experience
  • Your per word rate AND your per hour rate
  • Step 2: If you’re approved, a member of our team will reach out and provide a cultural fit test to see.
  • Step 3: If you’re a good fit, you’ll receive a sample writing test; where you’ll need to write a ~300 word sample according to instructions.
  • If you succeed on both tests we will start a part-time trial period with you. You will be paid for the test writing at a full trial period rate.
