We are seeking a Quality Engineer to support our internal quality systems, drive continuous improvement, and strengthen our supply chain quality performance. The successful candidate will collaborate across departments to resolve internal and external quality issues, ensure ISO compliance, and assist in new product introduction (NPI) activities. We are a manufacturing organization based in the heart of Birmingham, with great transport links to the rest of the UK. Responsibilities:
- Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to identify and eliminate sources of variation and improve processes.
- Contribute to maintaining ISO 9001 compliance, including participation in internal and external audit activities.
- Assist with the introduction of new tooling and manufacturing processes, including SPC and capability studies, during NPI projects.
- Conduct supplier development activities, including communicating quality requirements and offering technical support.
- Perform on-site supplier and customer visits as required to resolve quality issues and build relationships.
- Lead or support the resolution of customer concerns, ensuring effective implementation of corrective actions.
- Analyse problems using structured problem-solving techniques such as 8D and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Drive reduction in customer complaints, internal process variation, and external PPM.
- Perform process and compliance audits in line with internal and ISO standards.
- Support and develop departmental KPIs aligned with business-level objectives.
- Contribute to improving poka-yoke systems and error-proofing initiatives.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 (ISO 14001 desirable).
- Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis, corrective action systems, and continuous improvement tools.
- Experience with 8D problem-solving methodology and Six Sigma tools.
- Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and capability studies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Full UK driving licence required for supplier/customer site visits.
