A leading independent manufacturer is seeking an experienced Buyer to join our procurement team. This role is ideal for a procurement professional with strong knowledge of purchasing, supply chain management and supplier negotiation.
About the Role
As a Buyer, you will manage the end-to-end purchasing process for raw materials and related goods. You will play a key role in ensuring supply continuity, cost efficiency and quality compliance across our UK manufacturing operations. This position is central to our ongoing process improvements and business transformation.
What you’ll do
- Source, evaluate and purchase chemicals, raw materials and consumables to meet technical, quality and delivery requirements.
- Oversee the full procurement cycle, from requisition through to purchase order, delivery tracking and inventory support.
- Work closely with R&D, Production, Quality Control and Logistics to forecast demand and maintain material availability.
- Negotiate competitive pricing, terms and supplier contracts to drive cost savings and value.
- Build and maintain effective supplier relationships.
- Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews focusing on quality, delivery, cost and compliance.
- Identify and onboard new suppliers to mitigate supply risk and support business growth.
- Manage import processes to ensure accurate, timely and compliant operations.
What we’re looking for
- Education in Supply Chain Management, Business or a related technical field.
- Experience in manufacturing or chemical procurement would be helpful.
- CIPS qualification is an advantage but essential.
- Strong negotiation, analytical and contract‑management capabilities.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Sage) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
