Purpose of the Role

The Facilities Operative supports the smooth running of the site by delivering a wide range of building, equipment, and recycling duties. This varied and progressive role ensures that the site remains safe, compliant, well-maintained, and environmentally responsible through planned and reactive maintenance, waste management, and contractor coordination. This is a physical role which requires working with Plant and MHE equipment, with the ability to work at height and carry out a range of ad-hoc facility and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Maintenance

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on buildings, machinery, and equipment in line with schedules.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Support operational areas including building services, machinery, energy, and environmental systems.
  • Oversee and supervise contractors on site, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation and internal procedures.
  • Perform internal and external cleaning tasks as part of the building cleaning schedule.
  • Provide cover for Facilities Coordinator during periods of absence.

Recycling & Waste Management

  • Manage waste segregation across all waste streams, including waste and cardboard removal across the site.
  • Coordinate waste collections and disposal activities in line with environmental standards, working with selected contractors.
  • Operate a counterbalance Forklift Truck for the removal of packaging and recycled products.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised recycling area.

Reporting & Monitoring

  • Create, update, and maintain facilities and maintenance records.
  • Record and report equipment faults, failures, and maintenance actions.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying issues and proposing solutions.

Scope & Decision-Making

  • Manage own workload and coordinate contractors to complete maintenance and recycling tasks.
  • Recommend improvements to processes, equipment, plant, and machinery.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above) in English and Mathematics.
  • Health & Safety qualification desirable (training provided).
  • FLT, IPAF, or Roof Safety Lines certification preferred (training available).
  • Full clean driving licence and valid passport.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in general facilities maintenance and recycling operations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Understanding of workplace Health & Safety requirements.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
