Senior CAD/CAM Programmer required to work for a ground breaking business based near Woking. This is an amazing opportunity for an experienced CAD/CAM Programmer to join a high-precision machining environment! We are looking for someone with proven experience programming 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines, including complex multi-axis work. You will be based in the Machine Shop, working closely with the Quality and Production departments to produce quality end-products within set quality, tolerances and productivity time scales. This role is critical to the business and ensuring right-first-time manufacture, supporting challenging delivery schedules and solving complex machining problems in a high-pressure engineering environment.

The Senior CAD/CAM Programmer is responsible for delivering robust, efficient CNC programs for high-precision metal components manufactured on 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines. The role supports both internal production requirements and external customer projects, working with a range of materials including aluminium, copper, stainless steel and other alloys. This role covers many facets including Machining, Manufacturing, customer and Project support.

Responsibilities

  • Create, optimise and validate CNC programs for 3-axis, 4-axis and simultaneous 5-axis machining
  • Develop machining strategies for complex geometries and tight-tolerance parts
  • Generate complete CAM documentation including tooling lists, setup sheets and machining sequences
  • Simulate, verify and prove programs to eliminate collisions and minimise cycle times
  • Select appropriate tooling and machining strategies for aluminium, copper, stainless steel and exotic materials
  • Support machining teams during prove-out, first-off and production runs
  • Troubleshoot machining issues quickly and effectively to minimise machine downtime
  • Work closely with production, quality and engineering teams to resolve technical challenges
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focusing on cycle time reduction, tool life and process stability
  • Support both internal and external customers with complex and bespoke machining requirements
  • Contribute to new product introduction (NPI) and fast-turnaround projects
  • Provide technical input to feasibility reviews, quotations and manufacturing planning
  • Act as a senior technical resource for complex CAD/CAM and machining challenges
  • Apply strong problem-solving skills to deliver solutions under time pressure
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality and consistency in all programming activities

Experience and Qualifications

  • Subcon manufacturing experience as opposed to production only
  • Extensive experience as a CAD/CAM Programmer in a high-precision machining environment
  • Proven experience programming 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines, including complex multi-axis work
  • Strong proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, PowerMill, HyperMill, NX or CATIA
  • Excellent understanding of CNC machining principles, tooling and cutting parameters
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience within aerospace, motorsport, medical, defence or advanced engineering sectors
  • Familiarity with CNC controls such as Mazatrol, Fanuc, Siemens or Heidenhain
  • Experience with low-volume, high-complexity or fast-turnaround work
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100 or similar quality systems
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Time-served apprenticeship in CNC machining or manufacturing engineering (desirable)
