Position Overview
The Stores Operative will be responsible for ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are accurately received, stored, and distributed to support the day-to‑day operations of the engineering department. The successful candidate will play a key role in inventory management, ensuring stock levels are maintained, orders are processed efficiently, and materials are available for production.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving & Checking Stock: Unload deliveries and ensure that all received items match purchase orders and delivery notes. Inspect items for damage or discrepancies and report any issues promptly.
- Stock Management: Accurately store materials, tools, and equipment in designated areas. Keep inventory levels up‑to‑date and report low stock levels to the Warehouse Manager. Conduct regular stock checks and assist with periodic stock takes.
- Order Fulfillment: Pick and pack items as required by the engineering team or production department. Ensure all items are correctly labeled, packaged, and ready for dispatch or use.
- Inventory Control: Maintain an organized and efficient warehouse layout to optimize space and improve accessibility. Use inventory management software to track stock levels and movements.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all materials are stored and handled in compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to company safety policies.
- Administrative Support: Assist with the preparation of delivery notes, stock reports, and other documentation as required. Help maintain accurate records of goods receipts and dispatches.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Previous experience in a stores or warehouse role, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems and processes.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other warehouse equipment (training can be provided).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Basic IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Desirable
- Experience in an engineering or technical field.
- Forklift Truck Licence (counterbalance).
- Knowledge of materials and parts used in engineering or manufacturing.
