Overview

We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to join our Engineering & Maintenance team. You will play a crucial role in ensuring all machinery, equipment, and facilities operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime across our worktop manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical diagnostic skills with a good understanding of basic electrical systems to support effective fault finding and repair.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery, tools, and plant equipment.
  • Respond to breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults (bearings, belts, hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, drives, etc.).
  • Assist with basic electrical fault finding when required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance equipment reliability, performance, and efficiency.

Installation & Projects

  • Support installation, setup, and commissioning of new or refurbished machinery.
  • Ensure all engineering work meets site safety, compliance, and operational standards.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to all site safety procedures, including risk assessments and permit‑to‑work systems.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with statutory and company requirements.

Record Keeping & Collaboration

  • Maintain accurate service records, parts usage logs, and downtime reports.
  • Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to minimise downtime and support operational targets.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong mechanical diagnostic and repair skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical systems (motors, sensors, contactors, safety circuits).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and basic electrical drawings.
  • Experience with CNC machinery, saws, edge‑banders, dust extraction systems, and conveyors (advantageous within worktop manufacturing).
  • Good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong commitment to health & safety and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ Level 3, ONC, HNC, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or production maintenance environment—ideally within woodworking, stone, or composite material processing.
