Proactive Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a well-established business based in Telford. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and motivating a team within a semi-automated Distribution Centre environment, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient warehouse operations. The role drives operational excellence through continuous improvement, effective use of automation/technology, and delivery of DMUK strategic goals across Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

Hours: Rotating Days | 7:00am - 3:00pm / 3:00pm - 11:00pm.

Salary: £40,759.37 per annum.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Quality: Promote and embed a Quality First philosophy to achieve Right First Time (RFT). Ensure goods receipt, storage, picking, and dispatch processes maintain high accuracy and care. Challenge non-conformance and drive corrective actions. Maintain stock integrity and ensure traceability. Ensure audits (e.g. standardised work, DKM) are conducted and adhered to. Support internal and external quality audits (IATF/ISO).
  • Safety & Environmental: Lead a safety-first culture across all shift operations. Ensure PPE compliance and adherence to all Health & Safety standards. Conduct H&S inspections, risk assessments, and Safe Systems of Work. Ensure all incidents are reported, investigated, and actioned appropriately. Ensure compliance with environmental standards and DMUK procedures (ISO 14001 / 45001). Champion 5S standards and ensure workplace organisation and cleanliness.
  • Delivery: Manage day-to-day shift operations ensuring customer requirements are met. Ensure delivery of parts to production lines on a Just-In-Time basis. Monitor shift performance and ensure deadlines and KPIs are achieved. Ensure escalation processes are followed for operational issues. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and operational changes. Ensure effective shift handovers and communication. Coordinate resource allocation to meet business demand.
  • Cost: Control labour resources to balance cost vs operational volume. Manage agency/contract staff efficiently to maintain productivity. Support budget adherence and cost improvement initiatives. Drive Kaizen activities to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Human: Lead, coach, and develop a team of associates and team leaders. Manage team performance through engagement, coaching, and formal processes. Conduct appraisals, training needs analysis, and development plans. Deliver effective shift briefings and communication. Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of associates. Develop a continuous improvement mindset across the team (Kaizen culture).

Performance Measures: Achievement of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost targets. KPI delivery (accuracy, productivity, service levels). Reduction in incidents, errors, and waste. Engagement and development of team members. Continuous improvement (Kaizen activity and implementation). Adherence to audit and compliance standards. Delivery of departmental and personal objectives.

Dimensions: Responsibility for day-to-day shift operation within the Distribution Centre. Leadership of a large team (including agency staff) potentially 30+ associates. Oversight of warehouse processes including goods-in, storage, picking, and dispatch. Accountable for operational performance, safety compliance, and cost control. Interface with cross-functional teams (HR, Materials, Engineering, etc.).

Ideal Candidate: Experience managing teams in a fast-paced operational environment. Strong leadership and communication skills. Good planning, analytical, and problem-solving ability. Experience with WMS / warehouse systems and stock control. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high complexity environment. High level of numeracy and literacy. Experience delivering against KPI targets. Understanding Health & Safety requirements in a warehouse environment. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint). Experience of continuous improvement / Lean / Kaizen. Ability to motivate and engage teams to achieve objectives.

Desirable: Experience within an automated or semi-automated warehouse environment. Knowledge of robotics / autonomous systems (e.g. AGVs / AMRs). Formal management qualification (CMI or equivalent). IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent. FLT licenses (Counterbalance / Bendi). Experience in automotive manufacturing.
