Proactive Personnel are working closely with a large manufacturer to recruit a skilled Mechanical Engineer for their team in Ellesmere Port.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems and machinery, including bearings, shafts, hydraulics, pneumatics, boiler and plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in production machinery, including high-speed machines, conveyors, and other automated systems.
  • Respond quickly to mechanical breakdowns to minimize downtime and ensure production targets are met.
  • Support automation and control system enhancements to increase system reliability and production throughput.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems comply with safety standards and industry regulations (e.g., NFPA, NEC).
  • Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments and audits to ensure safe operation of mechanical equipment.
  • Enforce safe working practices.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to address technical challenges and improve the performance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of all mechanical maintenance activities, including repairs, upgrades and system performance.
  • Generate and review reports on mechanical performance, system issues and maintenance needs.

Qualifications & Skills

  • HNC level education.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • FL‑T and Cherry Picker licences preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities to quickly resolve mechanical and control system issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong self‑starter capable of independent learning and a desire to learn and develop.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with production teams and other engineering staff.
  • Ability to document and explain technical information to non‑technical personnel.
  • Ability to ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices in mechanical maintenance.
