Proactive Personnel are working closely with a large manufacturer to recruit a skilled Mechanical Engineer for their team in Ellesmere Port.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems and machinery, including bearings, shafts, hydraulics, pneumatics, boiler and plant equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in production machinery, including high-speed machines, conveyors, and other automated systems.
- Respond quickly to mechanical breakdowns to minimize downtime and ensure production targets are met.
- Support automation and control system enhancements to increase system reliability and production throughput.
- Ensure all mechanical systems comply with safety standards and industry regulations (e.g., NFPA, NEC).
- Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments and audits to ensure safe operation of mechanical equipment.
- Enforce safe working practices.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to address technical challenges and improve the performance of manufacturing equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of all mechanical maintenance activities, including repairs, upgrades and system performance.
- Generate and review reports on mechanical performance, system issues and maintenance needs.

- HNC level education.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- FL‑T and Cherry Picker licences preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities to quickly resolve mechanical and control system issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong self‑starter capable of independent learning and a desire to learn and develop.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with production teams and other engineering staff.
- Ability to document and explain technical information to non‑technical personnel.
- Ability to ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices in mechanical maintenance.
