We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Horizontal Borer Setter / Operator / Programmer to join a well-established engineering company based in Ashton-under-Lyne. This is a permanent opportunity for a skilled machinist with experience working on CNC Horizontal Boring/Milling machines.


The successful candidate will be responsible for setting, operating and programming CNC horizontal borers using Heidenhain control systems, producing high-quality medium to heavy-sized components from customer drawings and specifications.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Setting, operating and programming CNC Horizontal Boring/Milling machines

  • Working from detailed engineering drawings and customer specifications

  • Producing medium to heavy workpieces to a high standard

  • Carrying out self-inspection and ensuring components meet quality requirements

  • Working safely and efficiently within a busy engineering environment

  • Supporting overtime requirements when required


Candidate Requirements:



  • Previous experience operating CNC Horizontal Boring/Milling machines

  • Strong experience with Heidenhain controls

  • Ability to set and programme machines independently

  • Confident reading and working from engineering drawings

  • Experience machining medium to heavy components

  • Ability to inspect own work using measuring equipment

  • Willingness to work overtime when required


Shift Options Available:


Day Shift



  • Monday - Thursday: 08:00 - 16:30

  • Friday: 08:00 - 13:00

  • 37 paid hours per week

  • Overtime available (minimum expectation of 11 hours per week)

  • Overtime paid at Time + 1/3

  • Sundays paid at Time + 1/2


Night Shift



  • Monday - Thursday: 18:00 - 06:00

  • 4 x 12-hour shifts

  • Paid lunch break included

  • Overtime available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

  • Overtime paid at Time + 1/2
