The Opportunity

Our client is looking for a Software Engineer to join a growing technology team focused on solving business challenges through software, automation and AI.

This is not a traditional software engineering role.

While software development will remain a core part of your work, approximately

60% of your time will be spent designing, building and deploying solutions , with the remaining

40% focused on working directly with business stakeholders, finance teams and operational functions to understand challenges, identify opportunities and shape outcomes.

You'll be embedded within the business rather than operating purely from a development backlog.

You'll spend time understanding how teams work, uncovering inefficiencies, running workshops, gathering requirements and identifying where technology, automation and AI can create meaningful improvements.

Working in small, highly autonomous teams, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of problems from discovery through to delivery, combining technical expertise with commercial thinking and stakeholder engagement.

One day you may be building an internal application or AI-powered workflow; the next you could be working with business leaders to redesign a process, evaluate opportunities for automation or map out a solution to an operational challenge.

The role can be fully remote or hybrid depending on your preference, with occasional travel to UK offices for workshops, collaboration and stakeholder meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology & Solution Delivery (Approx. 60%)
  • Design, develop and deploy production-quality software applications, integrations and automation solutions.
  • Build tools and systems that improve operational efficiency, accuracy and user experience.
  • Leverage AI technologies and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and create innovative solutions.
  • Take ownership of projects throughout the full software development lifecycle.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned with business objectives.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, tooling and best practices.
  • Engagement & Consulting (Approx. 40%)
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, finance teams and operational functions to understand challenges and opportunities.
  • Facilitate discovery sessions, workshops and requirements gathering activities.
  • Analyse business processes and identify opportunities for improvement through technology, automation and AI.
  • Translate business needs into practical, scalable technical solutions.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Measure and validate the impact of solutions to ensure they deliver meaningful business outcomes.

About You

You'll be an experienced software engineer who enjoys working with people as much as technology.

You're naturally curious about how organisations operate and enjoy understanding business problems before designing solutions.

You can communicate confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences and are comfortable operating in environments where requirements are often discovered through conversation rather than handed over as detailed specifications.

Most importantly, you're excited by the opportunity to combine software engineering, AI and business problem-solving to deliver real organisational impact.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years' professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, Java Script/Type Script, Java or C++.
  • Experience designing, building and deploying production software.
  • Demonstrable experience using AI tools and technologies to improve productivity, automate processes or deliver business solutions.
  • Strong interest in AI, automation and emerging technologies, with an ability to identify practical business applications.
  • Comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders and business users.
  • Strong communication, consulting and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate business challenges into scalable technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to UK offices for workshops and stakeholder meetings.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working within finance, operations or other business-facing functions.
  • Experience delivering workflow automation, process improvement or transformation initiatives.
  • Exposure to systems integration, data engineering or business intelligence solutions.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and modern software architectures.
  • Consulting, business analysis or solution design experience.
  • Personal projects, open-source contributions or experimentation with AI technologies.
  • What's On Offer
  • Salary £40,000-£60,000 depending on experience
  • Discretionary bonus scheme.
  • Fully remote or hybrid working options.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Life assurance and wellbeing benefits.
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • High levels of autonomy and ownership.
  • Direct exposure to senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • The opportunity to shape how AI and technology are adopted across the organisation.
  • A collaborative environment where innovation and problem-solving are genuinely valued.
