Proactive IT Appointments are pleased to be partnered with a leading organisation in the financial services sector who are currently looking to onboard a Data Management Lead into their organisation. The right candidate will have experience in overseeing and improving data governance framework, data management controls and data security posture within a large organisation. The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert on data management including security and data risk, and be able to provide pragmatic, risk-based advice rather than theoretical guidance.
Responsibilities
- Review and improve data security across systems and suppliers.
- Make sure data access, storage, and sharing are secure.
- Keep up to date with cybersecurity risks.
- Help respond to data security incidents.
- Lead the Data Management Group and implement changes.
- Maintain data policies and standards.
- Follow UK GDPR, PECR, FCA rules, and internal risk policies.
- Report on data risks and progress to senior staff.
- Track and complete actions to fix issues.
- Act as a point of escalation for data or security problems.
- Check and manage third-party data safely.
- Work with teams to balance data use and security risks.
Experience required
- 5+ years’ experience in data management, data security, or similar roles, with hands-on experience implementing controls.
- Experience reviewing and improving data security across systems and platforms.
- Knowledge of the full data lifecycle (collection, storage, use, sharing, retention, disposal).
- Understanding of common cyber threats and how to prevent them.
- Experience assessing risks from suppliers, data providers, or technology partners.
- Good knowledge of UK GDPR, PECR, and data protection principles.
- Ability to challenge stakeholders on data and security risks.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
