We are currently recruiting a highly skilled CNC Miller for a precision engineering environment producing complex, high-value components to extremely tight tolerances. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinist to work in a high-spec workshop using advanced CNC milling technology and contribute to technically demanding manufacturing projects.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating CNC milling machines using Heidenhain and Siemens control systems to produce precision components.
Initial location: West Byfleet (temporary, 4-6 months) Permanent location: Send, Woking (Surrey)
Key Responsibilities
- Program, set and operate CNC milling machines (Heidenhain & Siemens controls)
- Manufacture precision components to micron-level tolerances
- Work from detailed engineering drawings and GD&T specifications
- Select tooling, cutting parameters, and machining strategies
- Machine steels, stainless steels, and exotic alloys
- Carry out first-off inspection and in-process quality checks
- Ensure parts meet strict quality standards
- Optimise programs and improve cycle times
- Troubleshoot machining issues and adjust programs or setups
- Maintain safe machine operation and workshop standards
- Work with engineering and quality teams for continuous improvement
Requirements
- Proven experience as a CNC Miller in a precision engineering environment
- Strong experience with Heidenhain and/or Siemens controls
- Ability to machine complex components to tight tolerances
- Experience with 3-axis and/or 5-axis machining
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience using inspection equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges)
- Strong attention to detail and quality focus
- Ability to work independently and manage workload
Desirable Experience
- Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
- Aerospace, oil & gas, medical, or defence background
- CAM software experience (Mastercam, Edgecam, Hypermill, etc.)
- Multi-axis or complex machining experience
Working Hours & Conditions
- Full-time, permanent role (40 hours per week)
- Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 15:30 (flexible within core hours)
- Workshop-based role (PPE required at all times)
- Overtime and shift work may be required depending on workload
Package
- £18.50 - £19.50 per hour (DOE)
- Overtime paid at 1.5x rate (pre-authorised)
- Private pension scheme (5% employee / 3% employer)
