We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a busy automated distribution and materials handling operation. This role involves carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, and continuous improvement activities on a wide range of automated equipment to ensure maximum system availability and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and servicing of automated materials handling equipment.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and PLC-related faults.
  • Prioritise faults to minimise downtime and maintain operational performance.
  • Perform scheduled repairs in line with manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices.
  • Maintain conveyor systems, automated machinery, and associated equipment to ensure continuous product flow.
  • Accurately complete maintenance records, reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure spare parts are maintained at appropriate stock levels.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Work closely with operations to minimise disruption and maximise productivity.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and site procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality at all times.

Requirements

  • ONC, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (electrical bias preferred).
  • Completed engineering apprenticeship is advantageous.
  • Experience maintaining automated machinery, conveyor systems, or materials handling equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems and automated controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Experience working to planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Comfortable working at height where required.
  • Good IT skills for completing maintenance records and reports.
  • A logical and methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
