Our client specialises in the automation and material handling industry, designing, manufacturing, installing and servicing automated material handling systems across key markets including airports, warehousing and parcel solutions. They have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join their project execution team. This position is well-suited to a strong, self-driven and highly organised quantity surveying professional who enjoys working in complex, technical environments and is motivated by seeing projects through to successful completion. This position sits within the Project Execution team and reports to the Commercial Group Leader. You will provide professional quantity surveying, contract management, cost control and commercial administration to support the successful delivery of complex automation projects within dynamic airport and parcel environments.
Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for the commercial and quantity surveying management of complex projects, ensuring projects are effectively cost and change controlled and protected from commercial risk.
- Support the management of contracts both upstream with customers and downstream with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Maintain financial control through forecasting, cash-flow management, cost control, applications for payment and billing plans.
- Monitor project costs, budgets and financial performance, identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
- Manage the change process, including reviewing scope changes and quantifying compensation events and associated time and cost impacts.
- Prepare, review and manage valuations, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Support procurement activities, including the commercial assessment and management of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams, taking ownership and accountability for the commercial success of projects.
- Contribute to the development of commercial and quantity surveying best practice within the wider team.
Requirements:
- Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management experience within complex engineering projects, ideally involving airport projects.
- Strong knowledge of different forms of contract, such as NEC3, NEC4 and MF/1.
- Experience working on complex engineering projects generating revenue of £10m+ per annum.
- Strong understanding of cost control, change management and the commercial impact of project variations.
- Experience estimating and assessing compensation events for both time and cost.
- Good understanding of project programmes and schedule delay analysis.
- Experience managing suppliers and subcontractors, both pre- and post-contract.
- Strong experience with valuations, applications for payment, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills within a fast-moving environment.
- Strong negotiation, diplomacy and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to influence and drive stakeholders to work towards project dates and programmes.
- Membership of a professional body such as RICS, CIOB or ACostE is preferred.
