Our client specialises in the automation and material handling industry, designing, manufacturing, installing and servicing automated material handling systems across key markets including airports, warehousing and parcel solutions. They have an excellent reputation for reliable project delivery, innovation and customer focus.
This position is well-suited to a strong, self-driven and highly organised commercial professional who enjoys working in complex, technical environments and is motivated by seeing projects through to successful completion. This position sits within the Project Execution team and reports to the Commercial Group Leader. You will provide professional contract management, procurement, cost control and commercial administration to support the successful delivery of complex automation projects within dynamic airport and parcel environments.
Responsibilities:
- Take accountability for the commercial management of complex projects, ensuring projects are cost and change controlled and protected from commercial risk.
- Manage contracts both upstream with customers and downstream with subcontractors.
- Maintain financial control through forecasting, cash-flow management, cost control, applications for payment and billing plans.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Manage the change process, including analysis and understanding of scope and the quantification of compensation events.
- Support the development of commercial management best practice and mentor members of the commercial team.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams, taking ownership and accountability for the commercial success of projects.
Requirements:
- Commercial management experience within complex engineering projects, ideally involving airport projects.
- Ideally, experience working on Heathrow projects.
- Strong knowledge of different forms of contract, such as NEC3, NEC4 and MF/1.
- Experience managing complex engineering projects generating revenue of 10m+ per annum.
- Strong understanding of change management, including estimating compensation events for time and cost.
- Good understanding of project programmes and schedule delay analysis.
- Experience managing suppliers and subcontractors, both pre- and post-contract.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills within a fast-moving environment.
- Strong negotiation, diplomacy and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to influence and drive stakeholders to work towards project dates and programmes.
- Membership of a professional body such as RICS, CIOB or ACostE is preferred.
