Position: Electro-Mechanical Build Technician
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £30,000
Proactive are currently in search of a skilled Electro-Mechanical Build Technician to start work for a company based in Cambridge. You will be responsible for providing build and test support for the development and production of cutting-edge systems using your mechanical and electrical knowledge.
Main Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the assembly of Systems in support of the product development team including but not limited to:
- Reading & interpreting technical drawings.
- Power Cabinet panel wiring - flagging issues with supplier & internal quality.
- Mechanical assemblies (flash heads, pipework, cabinets, power cables).
- Electrical / functional / safety testing of system builds.
- Take ownership and responsibility to ensure that the build process is as fast and trouble-free as possible for all members of the team whilst maintaining a high-quality standard.
- Undertake electrical/functional testing of systems prior to the system being released.
- Support the testing and commissioning of systems on customer sites - some travel will be required.
- Develop and improve all aspects of the build process including standardisation of build and test methods to ensure highest product quality.
- Create and maintain documentation to support system builds.
- Specify and maintain tools and equipment.
- Develop and sustain Kanban systems for control of consumables in systems build.
- Training and development of systems build team.
Knowledge and Experience:
Essential:
- Good understanding of AC and DC electrical principles, capacitance, inductance, resistance.
- Good working knowledge of PLC hardware.
- Detailed experience/understanding of electrical switchgear and control systems (desired).
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings.
- Wiring and soldering experience (skills test in interview).
- Substantial and proven mechanical knowledge and skills.
- Comfortable reacting to change resulting from evolving/integrating designs when there is an issue.
- Excellent problem-solving skills - able to methodically and logically find root cause of technical issues.
- Excellent attention to detail, logical/methodical thinker.
- Working knowledge of standard manufacturing and engineering processes.
- Good communication skills - able to work across team/and functions.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- IT literate - Effective use of MS Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote).
Desirable:
- Basic knowledge of PLC software (could be trained).
- Knowledge of safety circuits and system compliance will be an advantage.
- SAP working user knowledge.
- Drive for development and learning.
- Exposure to 5S Lean Manufacturing Methodology.
- Experience in any of the following technologies would be advantageous - plastics, polymer, printed electronics, thin film coatings or display industry.
- Experience of Machinery Safety / Certified Machinery Safety Expert (TUV NORD).
