Production Engineer in Bedford

Are you a Production or Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys turning engineering designs into practical, efficient manufacturing solutions? We are working with a highly specialist engineering organisation in Bedford that designs and manufactures complex, bespoke engineered products for an international customer base. Due to continued growth, they are looking for a Production Engineer to join their Design & Manufacture team, working at the point where design, project engineering and manufacturing come together. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the manufacturing process and taking ownership of how technically challenging components move from design through to production. The role As Production Engineer, you will help ensure new projects are ready for manufacture and delivered efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards. Your responsibilities will include: * Reviewing engineering designs and providing Design for Manufacture (DFM/D4M) input * Planning the most appropriate methods and sequence of manufacture * Creating and maintaining route cards, manufacturing routings and process instructions * Identifying material requirements and coordinating the availability/order of raw materials * Working closely with Design, Manufacturing, Project and Inspection teams * Identifying processes or components requiring external manufacture * Managing subcontract RFQs, quotations and supplier delivery performance * Monitoring component progress through manufacture and resolving potential delays * Supporting project and design reviews throughout the manufacturing lifecycle * Helping improve manufacturing efficiency, cost and overall production readiness What we’re looking for We’re interested in speaking with experienced Production Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Methods Engineers, NPI Engineers or similarly experienced engineering professionals. Ideally, you’ll have: * Experience within a mechanical manufacturing or precision engineering environment * A strong understanding of manufacturing and machining processes * Experience interpreting engineering drawings * Knowledge of DFM / Design for Manufacture * Experience creating route cards, routings, process plans or manufacturing instructions * Experience working with subcontract manufacturers or engineering suppliers * Strong organisation and communication skills * ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification/experience in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering Experience within aerospace, defence, motorsport, precision engineering, special-purpose machinery or another low-volume, technically complex manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant. The position offers a salary of £32,000–£38,000 depending on experience, ongoing training and development and the opportunity to play a visible role within an integrated engineering and manufacturing team.
