Are you a senior mechanical engineering professional with extensive experience in pumps, rotating equipment or fluid handling systems? We are working with an established engineering manufacturer seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across product development, engineering excellence and innovation. This is a key leadership position where you will act as a technical authority, guiding engineering decisions, supporting strategic product development and helping shape the future direction of highly engineered pumping solutions.
The Role
Working closely with senior leadership, engineering teams and customers, you will drive technical excellence across the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to testing, manufacture and field performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and engineering expertise across the organisation
- Lead product development and innovation initiatives
- Drive engineering best practice and continuous improvement
- Support product selection, design, validation and testing activities
- Act as technical authority for pump and rotating equipment solutions
- Lead root cause investigations and engineering problem solving activities
- Support customers with complex technical requirements
- Collaborate with sales, operations and engineering teams on strategic projects
- Mentor and develop engineering talent across the business
What We’re Looking For
- Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer
- Extensive experience within pumps, rotating equipment or fluid handling systems
- Strong understanding of hydraulic design principles
- Experience in mechanical design, analysis and product development
- Knowledge of FMEA, root cause analysis and engineering validation
- Strong commercial awareness and customer focus
- Ability to influence technical strategy and engineering decisions
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status
- Experience with SolidWorks, ANSYS or FEA tools
- Water industry experience
- Product management experience
