Mechanical Technician in Bedford

Are you a hands-on Mechanical Technician or Mechanical Fitter with experience maintaining and repairing industrial plant and machinery? We are working with a highly specialised engineering organisation in Bedford to recruit a Mechanical Technician into its Engineering Services team. This is a varied, practical engineering position where you’ll be responsible for keeping an impressive and unusual engineering facility operating safely and reliably. You’ll work across planned maintenance, breakdowns, fault-finding, repairs, installation and modification of mechanical plant and equipment. The role Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you’ll be responsible for: * Carrying out planned inspections and preventative maintenance * Responding to plant and equipment breakdowns * Mechanical fault-finding, repairs and component replacement * Installing and modifying new plant and equipment * Maintaining hydraulic and lubrication systems * Working with compressed-air and pneumatic systems * Maintaining pumps, cooling and water systems * Working on mechanical machinery incorporating gears, chains, linkages and other rotating/reciprocating components * Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability * Working safely in accordance with risk assessments, method statements and site procedures * Supporting the site’s emergency response arrangements What we’re looking for We’re interested in speaking with Mechanical Technicians, Mechanical Fitters, Maintenance Fitters, Mechanical Maintenance Engineers and similarly experienced hands-on engineers. You’ll ideally have completed a mechanical apprenticeship or have substantial practical experience maintaining industrial plant and equipment. Experience across several of the following would be particularly valuable: * Mechanical plant maintenance * Hydraulics * Pneumatics and compressed-air systems * Pumps and valves * Cooling/water systems * Lubrication systems * Gears, bearings, chains and linkages * Rotating and reciprocating machinery * Planned preventative maintenance * Breakdown and reactive maintenance * Mechanical installation and modification You don’t need previous experience within aerospace or wind tunnel environments. What’s more important is a strong industrial mechanical background, practical fault-finding ability and the confidence to work on complex plant and machinery. Hours: This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week on rotating shifts, typically: Early: 06:30–14:30 Late: 14:00–22:00 What’s on offer?
