Senior Business Analyst - Core Banking Transformation
Inside IR35 - Hybrid 2-3 days onsite per week
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst with proven end-to-end core banking transformation experience to support a major core banking platform review and replacement programme within wholesale banking.
This is a senior, hands-on role requiring a strong blend of business analysis, banking product knowledge, data and interface definition, and vendor selection experience. You will play a pivotal role from initial discovery and requirements definition through RFP development, vendor evaluation, implementation, migration, testing and business readiness.
Working across business, operations, finance and technology teams in EMEA, the US and APAC, you will help define the future-state platform and ensure it meets the bank’s functional, data, integration and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead discovery workshops across business, operations, finance and IT, documenting current-state processes, data flows and system interfaces.
- Define functional and non-functional requirements, maintaining end-to-end traceability and translating requirements into epics, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Work with the Enterprise Data Architect to define the future-state business data model, data mappings and migration reconciliation rules.
- Specify interfaces between the core banking platform, treasury settlement, general ledger and payment networks.
- Own the RFP process from a business analysis perspective, including scope, requirements, evaluation scenarios and scoring criteria; assess vendor responses and lead functional evaluations and demonstrations.
- Act as the primary day-to-day functional counterpart to platform vendors and delivery partners, resolving requirements, design and integration queries.
- Define test strategies and UAT scenarios, lead business defect triage and establish business readiness criteria for go-live.
- Coordinate stakeholders across international teams, manage competing priorities and proactively escalate risks with clear options and recommendations.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 10+ years' Business Analysis experience in banking, including at least one end-to-end core banking or treasury platform replacement from vendor selection through implementation and go-live.
- Strong wholesale banking product knowledge, covering FX, money markets, interest rate swaps, bonds and corporate lending, including booking, settlement and accounting processes.
- Practical knowledge of SWIFT MT/MX messaging and ISO 20022 migration, with the ability to define interface requirements, message mappings and test scenarios for treasury and payments.
- Strong conceptual and logical data modelling, data mapping and migration reconciliation experience.
- Ability to interpret JSON and XML schemas, REST APIs and event-driven API specifications.
- Proven experience authoring RFPs and evaluating enterprise banking software vendors.
- Expertise in requirements management and traceability using Jira or Azure DevOps, alongside process and interface modelling using BPMN, sequence diagrams and tools such as Visio, Lucidchart or equivalent.
- Experience defining test strategies, designing UAT and managing defects within complex transformation programmes.
- Excellent workshop facilitation and stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior stakeholders across time zones and cultures.
Desirable Experience
- Calypso: Back-office trade lifecycle, settlement and accounting event posting.
- Experience with wholesale or commercial banking platforms
