We are looking for a Solutions Architect to join a growing and highly successful IT services company based near Guildford. This is a client-facing role for someone who can bridge the gap between technology and business. You will need a strong technical understanding, but this is not a hands-on delivery role. Equally, this isn't a traditional sales position.
You will work with a portfolio of SME clients, getting to understand their businesses, their current technology and where they want to go next. You will help shape their IT strategy, identify areas for improvement and scope the projects needed to get them there.
The role has three main areas:
- Running regular strategic IT roadmap meetings with clients
- Scoping and costing IT projects before handing them over to the technical delivery team
- Supporting new business opportunities and helping clients identify where technology can improve their business
You will need enough technical knowledge to look at an existing environment and work out what a solution should look like, what technology is required and the likely time and cost involved in delivering it. The majority of clients are Microsoft based, so good knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure is important. Experience around Microsoft security, cloud migrations and wider infrastructure would also be useful.
We are ideally looking for someone from an MSP, IT services, consultancy or similar background who combines good technical knowledge with excellent people skills. You should be comfortable talking technology with technical teams one minute and explaining the business case to a company owner the next. Experience with Apple/macOS or Google Workspace environments would be an added bonus, as would an interest in AI and how it can be used practically within businesses.
The role is hybrid, with 2-3 days a week based in the office near Guildford, alongside occasional client visits. If you are technically credible, enjoy working with clients and want a role where you can have a genuine influence on their technology strategy, we'd be very interested in speaking to you.

How to prepare for a job interview at Proactive Appointments Careers
✨Brush Up on Your Technical Skills
For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.
✨Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach
IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.
✨Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions
When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
