We are working with a leading tax consultancy based in Manchester who are looking to bring an experienced R&D Tax Director to head up their incentive & relief business. You will be a key member of the tax leadership team, running the R&D practice but also assisting in the wider growth of the firm across the North.
Responsibilities
- Lead the R&D tax practice, including strategy, service quality, and growth.
- Maintain expert knowledge of R&D tax legislation, HMRC guidance, and industry developments.
- Oversee and review complex or high-risk R&D claims to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Manage HMRC enquiries, draft technical responses, and negotiate resolutions.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and act as the senior technical advisor.
- Identify opportunities for new work, cross-selling, and service development.
- Lead and develop a team through coaching, training, and performance management.
- Manage workflow, resourcing, and project delivery for the R&D team.
- Support business development through pitches, networking, and thought leadership.
- Oversee financial performance including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability.
- Ensure robust risk management, governance, and internal compliance processes.
Qualifications
- Ideally you’ll be either an experienced Director or Senior Manager who has experience running an R&D Tax Practice.
- Suitable qualified (CTA, ACA, ATT etc) or with significant experience working in R&D tax advisory.
- Experience growing and developing staff members in a professional services environment.
