I’m currently working with a highly regarded and growing accountancy practice looking to appoint an Audit Senior Manager to join their Manchester team. This is a senior role within the audit practice, offering responsibility for a significant portfolio of clients and the opportunity to play a key role in the leadership and development of the team. The firm has a strong reputation within the professional services sector, with around 50% of the audit portfolio consisting of professional services clients, alongside clients across sectors including real estate, construction, technology, retail and media.

What you will be doing as an Audit Senior Manager:

  • Managing and overseeing a portfolio of audit clients, including professional firms such as law firms and accountancy practices.
  • Leading multiple audit engagements from planning through to completion, ensuring quality and efficiency across assignments.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for senior client stakeholders and building long‑term relationships.
  • Reviewing audit work, providing technical oversight and ensuring compliance with UK auditing and accounting standards.
  • Managing several audit assignments simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
  • Leading and developing audit teams, including line management of Managers and junior staff.
  • Supporting recruitment, training and performance development across the team.
  • Planning engagements strategically to maximise efficiency and firm‑wide productivity.
  • Playing a key role in business development, including identifying opportunities within existing clients, contributing to pitches and supporting new client wins.

What you will need to succeed as an Audit Senior Manager:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Currently operating at Audit Senior Manager level or an experienced Manager ready to step up.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards.
  • Background within general practice or professional services.
  • Significant experience auditing professional firms, ideally including law firms and accountancy practices.
  • Experience overseeing multiple engagements and managing complex client portfolios.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, develop and motivate teams.
  • Commercially aware with a proactive approach to client relationship management and business development.
  • Experience carrying out SRA Accounts Rules Reviews or similar client money audits.
