A well-established, independent accountancy practice based in Stafford is looking to appoint an experienced Bookkeeper / Accountant to join their small and friendly team. This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit either a qualified accountant or an experienced QBE who enjoys working closely with clients and getting involved across a broad range of accounting work. You will be responsible for a mixture of bookkeeping and accounts duties, supporting a portfolio of clients across their day-to-day accounting requirements.

What you will be doing as a Bookkeeper:

  • Preparation of year-end accounts for a range of clients
  • Bookkeeping and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns
  • Preparation of monthly/quarterly management accounts
  • Bank reconciliations and general ledger work
  • Assisting clients with day-to-day accounting queries
  • Liaising directly with clients and building strong working relationships
  • Supporting with general accounts and practice-related duties as required

What you will need to succeed as a Bookkeeper:

  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
  • Strong bookkeeping and accounts preparation experience
  • Experience preparing VAT returns and management accounts
  • Excellent experience using Xero - this is essential
  • AAT, ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification would be advantageous, although QBE candidates will also be considered
  • Good communication skills and a client-focused approach
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
