The R&D Tax Manager Role: This role sits within a growing R&D function currently aligned to Corporate Tax, with plans to develop into a standalone team. As an R&D Tax Manager, you will work across a varied and innovative client base, leading engagements and delivering both compliance and advisory work. You will take ownership of client relationships while contributing to the growth and direction of the R&D offering. Key Responsibilities:
- Client Relationship Management
- Lead client engagements and act as the primary point of contact
- Build strong, long-term client relationships
- Work closely with senior stakeholders on complex R&D projects
- Compliance & Advisory
- Oversee and review R&D tax claims, ensuring compliance with HMRC guidance
- Deliver technical and financial analysis, including narratives and cost breakdowns
- Support advisory work including technical reviews, HMRC enquiries and process improvements
- Stay up to date with evolving R&D legislation and reporting requirements
- Business Development & Growth
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and service offering
- Contribute to proposals and development of the R&D practice
- Support internal knowledge sharing and process improvement
About You: You will be a technically strong and commercially aware R&D Tax specialist who is confident working in a developing team environment. Ideal experience includes:
- Strong UK R&D tax experience, including claims preparation and review
- Understanding of RDEC and evolving R&D legislation
- Experience working with technical stakeholders (e.g. engineers, software teams)
- Confident client-facing skills and ability to lead conversations
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Experience mentoring or reviewing junior work
- ACA / ACCA / CTA (or equivalent) preferred
Strong Assistant Managers ready to step up will also be considered.
