Job Description

Audit Director

High Wycombe
£90,000 - £110,000+

This role is for an Audit Director who wants to do more than manage an audit portfolio.

I'm working with an established accountancy firm in High Wycombe that is looking for someone to play a much bigger part in the growth of the business.

Yes, you need to be technically strong.

Yes, you need to be credible with audit clients.

But the real opportunity here is around business development, relationship building and growth.

The firm wants someone who can use their audit background as a platform to build deeper client relationships, generate new opportunities and help bring new work into the business.

They are looking for someone who enjoys being in front of clients, networking, opening doors, spotting opportunities and turning conversations into work.

The opportunity

You'll take senior responsibility for a portfolio of audit clients, but that is only part of the role.

A big part of your remit will be to help grow the firm.

That will include:

  • Building senior relationships with business owners, FDs and finance leaders
  • Winning new audit clients
  • Developing opportunities within the existing client base
  • Cross-selling wider services across tax, accounts, outsourcing and advisory
  • Leading pitches, tenders and new business meetings
  • Building your own network in the local market
  • Generating referrals and introductions
  • Representing the firm at networking and business events
  • Working with the leadership team on growth strategy
  • Helping shape the future direction of the audit practice

You'll also have responsibility for the quality and delivery of the audit work itself, including oversight of complex engagements, technical matters, risk and team development.

Who they are looking for

This is aimed at someone who has already built real depth in audit, but who is equally motivated by the commercial side of practice.

You might already be an Audit Director or Associate Director in a larger firm and feel that your current role is too internally focused.

You might be doing plenty of client work but still relying on Partners to bring in most of the new business.

Or you might simply want a role where winning work and building a market presence is genuinely part of your remit, rather than something you are encouraged to do without being given the platform.

You'll ideally bring:

  • ACA or ACCA qualification
  • Strong external audit experience
  • Experience managing a significant portfolio
  • Strong client-facing skills
  • A track record of developing client relationships
  • Some evidence of winning or generating work
  • Confidence networking and representing a firm externally
  • Experience leading pitches or proposals
  • Strong leadership and team development capability
  • Commercial awareness and the confidence to spot opportunities beyond audit

RI status would be highly attractive.

A portable client following is not essential, but you should be someone who is comfortable being measured on more than technical delivery.

Why consider it?

This is a firm of around 50 people, so your contribution will be visible.

You won't be one of a long list of Directors sitting under multiple layers of Partners.

You'll have direct access to the people running the business and a genuine opportunity to influence how the firm grows.

There is an established client base to work with, but they want someone who can build on it.

Someone who can help bring in new clients.

Someone who can create opportunities across the wider firm.

Someone who wants to be known in the market, not just internally.

The salary is £90,000 - £110,000+, with flexibility for the right person.
