I'm working with a leading national accountancy firm that is looking to appoint an Audit Manager into its specialist Social Housing and Not for Profit audit team. This is a strong opportunity for a qualified Audit Manager, or an experienced Assistant Manager ready to step up, who wants to work with purpose-led organisations while developing a genuine sector specialism. The team works with a high-profile portfolio of social housing providers, charities and wider not for profit organisations, including household names, top 100 charities, grant makers, schools, academies, membership bodies, professional bodies and international NGOs.

The firm is a leading adviser to the Social Housing sector and has continued to invest heavily in this area, working closely with sector bodies and acting as Technical Advisor to the Housing SORP working party.

The Role

As Audit Manager, you will manage a portfolio of external audit clients and deliver a year-round service, acting as a key contact for clients and leading audit teams from planning through to completion. The role offers genuine variety, with the opportunity to build your own portfolio in areas of interest alongside social housing, while also supporting wider assurance work and business development activity.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of social housing and not for profit audit clients
  • Coordinating audit teams and managing multiple assignments
  • Leading audits from planning through to completion
  • Acting as a principal client contact throughout the year
  • Building strong relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard
  • Preparing and presenting reports to senior management, Audit Committees and Boards
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing junior team members
  • Supporting business development activity and building your own network
  • Contributing to proposals and presentations for new work
  • Supporting wider assurance projects where required
  • Taking part in team and firm-wide training and development activity

What They're Looking For

The firm is keen to speak with qualified audit professionals who are technically strong, personable and interested in building a long-term career within the social purpose sector. You will ideally have:

  • ACA, ICAS, ACCA or equivalent qualification
  • Strong external audit experience gained within practice
  • Good technical knowledge of auditing and accounting standards
  • Experience managing audit assignments, teams and deadlines
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills
  • Confidence preparing and presenting reports
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • The ability to coach, support and mentor junior colleagues
  • A proactive, organised and client-focused approach
  • Social housing, charity or not for profit audit experience would be beneficial, but is not essential

Why Apply?

This is a great opportunity to join a growing, award-winning team that is genuinely committed to the social purpose sector. You will work with organisations that make a real difference, while benefiting from high-quality clients, strong technical development, sector-leading expertise and clear long-term progression.

The package includes:

  • Competitive salary + benefits
  • Flexible / hybrid working
  • Part-time working considered
  • High-profile social housing and not for profit client base
  • Opportunity to develop a recognised sector specialism
  • Clear career pathway and merit-based progression
  • Continuous learning and technical development
  • Flexible benefits package
  • Dedicated wellbeing support
  • Collaborative, inclusive and supportive culture

This would suit an Audit Manager looking for more meaningful client work, or a strong Assistant Manager ready to step up into a Manager role within a specialist, progressive and highly regarded team.

Please note, applicants must have an existing permanent right to live and work in the UK.
