I'm working with a well-established general practice accountancy firm that is looking to appoint an Accounts & Tax Manager into a senior, client-facing role. This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants more than a standard compliance position. The firm is looking for a commercial, hands-on manager who wants to help run the business day to day, support operations, manage staff workflow and play a key role in the continued development of the practice.

The firm has a varied client base across a range of industries, from small sole traders through to groups of medium-sized companies, including some clients requiring statutory audit.

The Role

You will report directly to the Directors and manage a portfolio of clients, acting as a first point of contact and helping ensure work is delivered accurately, commercially and on time. Alongside accounts and tax work, you will work closely with the Directors on staff workflow, training, client service and the day-to-day operational needs of the firm.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of clients
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients
  • Preparing and reviewing accounts
  • Preparing corporation tax and personal tax returns
  • Reviewing accounts and tax work prepared by junior team members
  • Supporting, training and developing junior staff
  • Working alongside the Directors to manage team workflow
  • Helping ensure deadlines, quality standards and client expectations are met
  • Supporting the wider running and development of the firm
  • Building strong client relationships and identifying ways to improve service delivery

What They're Looking For

The firm is keen to speak with someone who is technically strong, commercially minded and confident dealing directly with clients and staff. You will ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification
  • Strong accounts and tax experience within practice
  • Experience supervising or reviewing work from junior staff
  • Good knowledge of FRS 102 and FRS 102 1A
  • Strong corporation tax, VAT and personal tax knowledge
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and a confident client-facing approach
  • The ability to build strong client relationships
  • A commercial mindset and interest in helping the firm grow
  • Working knowledge of Iris and CCH personal tax would be beneficial
  • Service charge accounting experience would be useful, but is not essential

Why Apply?

This is a great opportunity to join a firm where you can have genuine influence, not just process work. The Directors are looking for someone who can take ownership, help with the operational side of the practice and become a trusted senior member of the team.

The package includes:

  • £55,000-£65,000
  • Senior client-facing role
  • Broad general practice exposure
  • Varied client portfolio
  • Direct access to the Directors
  • Opportunity to help manage workflow and firm operations
  • Further progression available for the right person
  • North West London location

This would suit an Accounts & Tax Senior ready to step up, or an existing Accounts & Tax Manager looking for a broader role with more responsibility, client ownership and involvement in the running of the firm.
