About 89up

89up is the global agency for not-for-profits and good causes. Our mission is clear: to help our incredible clients tackle the world’s greatest challenges. We work with civil society organisations across the UK, Europe, the US, and beyond to build award-winning campaigns that drive meaningful change. From climate action, social justice, economic fairness and human rights, everything we do brings us closer to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We are a fully integrated agency delivering public relations, creative campaigns, website development, advocacy, insights, and mobilisation. Working for 89up, you join a team of talented people who are passionate about driving change, love tackling complex problems, believe in working collaboratively and value ideas from colleagues at all levels.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced PR Account Manager to join our UK/Global PR team. This is a hands-on media relations role for someone who can hit the ground running: developing media strategies, finding stories, building journalist relationships, securing coverage and helping clients cut through busy news agendas.

You’ll work across a varied client base, from international policy summits and data-led research launches to local community storytelling and building creative media moments from scratch. Your day-to-day work will include reading reports and policy documents to identify newsworthy insights, developing media angles, drafting press materials, leading sell-ins, briefing spokespeople and staying close to journalists to understand what they need.

With support and oversight from Account Directors and senior leaders, you will contribute to and deliver the strategic direction of accounts, taking ownership of campaign delivery, timelines, client management and ensuring we meet and beat client expectations. You’ll also manage and support junior colleagues, helping them sharpen their writing, pitching and news judgement.

On integrated campaigns you’ll work closely with our digital, policy, creative and web teams, with opportunities to learn and expand your skills in different disciplines.

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years experience in media relations with a strong agency background and proven track record of building strong journalist relationships and landing top-tier UK and/or international coverage.
  • Exceptional media handling skills, with a detailed knowledge of the news cycle across print, broadcast and online outlets.
  • Quality writing and editorial instincts to create high-quality copy, from crisp headlines to polished opinion articles and detailed press notes.
  • Confidence in tackling complex topics, spotting the media hook in a dense research report and turning it into a compelling story.
  • Global perspective and political instincts, with hands-on experience navigating politically and culturally sensitive campaigns and issues.
  • Ability to think ‘outside the box’, bringing original suggestions to tricky briefs.
  • Excellent stakeholder management with a natural ability to build strong relationships with clients and external partners.
  • Strong account handling to drive progress on projects.
  • A team player who can get the best out of working collaboratively with team members.
  • Commercial understanding of the need for projects to be not only well executed but also delivered within budget.

What we offer

  • Hybrid working with 3 office days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as core days).
  • 24 days holiday (a max of 4 days are taken for closure over Christmas plus an additional day off on your birthday).
  • A competitive base salary with performance-linked discretionary bonuses twice yearly.
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity pay.
  • Pension company contributions.
  • Gold-plated sickness benefits and life insurance.
  • Online GP, private counselling, eyecare vouchers, wellbeing service.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme.
  • A commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
  • Clear career progression pathways and opportunities to develop in a fast-growth agency.
  • Formal mentoring and training schemes to support your success.
  • A dynamic work environment where your contributions are heard and counted.

This is an opportunity to work on some of the most pressing issues of our time, with people who are committed to making a difference. If you’re passionate about politics, media, and driving change, we want to hear from you.
