Launched in 2023, the Bee Network is Greater Manchester’s vision for a fully integrated public transport system, bringing together buses, trams, walking, wheeling and cycling - with local rail services set to join by 2028. It’s accessible, affordable and easy to use, and is already delivering positive benefits across the city region.**Your Role**Reporting to and supporting the Assistant Director of Transport Communications, this a key managerial role within the communications team. You’ll support the Assistant Director in developing a high-performing and respected team, as well as delivering impactful, co-ordinated communication campaigns and activities across all areas of transport policy, operations and services. You’ll provide trusted advice to senior leaders at Transport for Greater Manchester and Greater Manchester Combined Authority to promote the Bee Network, manage reputational issues, and positively position Greater Manchester’s bold approach to transport on the national stage. As well as being a member of the transport communications senior management team, you’ll also be responsible for leadership, development and wellbeing of your own sub-team, ensuring they deliver impactful communications activity on time, on budget and to a high standard**.**You’ll be working in the Communications team at Transport for Greater Manchester, the organisation that runs the Bee Network, the joined-up public transport system including buses and trams. But you will also be working closely with Greater Manchester Combined Authority, ensuring the communications activity we deliver is coordinated with their own activity and that of the elected Mayor of Greater Manchester.As a key member of the Communications senior management team, you will be responsible for supporting and promoting the Bee Network and running the area of the team which focuses on live transport operations and services such as buses and trams, fares and ticketing and school travel.It’s a critical role with TfGM and the Bee Network now responsible for all the buses and trams in Greater Manchester and the millions of journeys they enable every year - as well as a rapidly expanding walking, wheeling and cycling network and a major cycle hire scheme. Each and every journey is important, linking people and places, people to jobs, skills, schools, education and opportunity, helping family and friends get together and stay in touch, and supporting enterprise by opening up the job market to more candidates and helping more customers get to shops and businesses.**What you’ll bring**We’re looking for a positive, proactive and experienced communicator who can lead a team, develop creative campaigns and get hands on, helping bring them to life. Strong media and crisis management skills are critical as well as the ability to think laterally and develop multi-channel campaigns based on insight. A strong understanding of social media and digital channels is vital as well as the ability to engage and influence people and organisations. You’ll need to be pragmatic, flexible and adaptable, able to think strategically and plan effectively, while also delivering tactically and responding to rapidly changing situations while maintaining a calm and considered approach.
