- Setting out: Transfer design data from drawings/BIM to site using total station, GPS, or laser
- Concrete structures: Set formwork lines, slab levels, column/grid lines, pile positions
- Civils works: Set kerb lines, drainage falls, road levels, foundations
- QA & records: Check tolerances, produce as-built surveys, keep setting out books
- Safety: Follow CDM 2015, site rules, and risk assessments
- Coordination: Work with site managers, steel fixers, formwork teams
- Issue resolution: Spot clashes/errors early and propose fixes
Requirements – UK 2026
- Quals: HNC/HND or degree in Civil Eng, Surveying, or Geospatial
- Experience: 2-5 years setting out on structures, civils, or building projects
- Skills: Total station, GPS/GNSS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 12D, Rebar
- Certs: CSCS card, SMSTS a plus. TPS or RICS route if chartered
- Knowledge: BS EN tolerances for concrete, surveying methods

- AM: Download data, check drawings, issue levels to gangs
- Work: Set out formwork, pour checks, record as-builts
- PM: Survey records, handover points to next shift
