- Operate the crane: Set up and operate spider/mini cranes using remote control or cab controls.
- Lift planning: Check lift plans, risk assessments, and method statements before each lift.

- Load handling: Sling and lift loads safely, working with slingers/signallers using standard signals.
- Site safety: Maintain exclusion zones, watch for overhead obstructions, and ensure ground stability.
- Maintenance: Report faults, keep basic maintenance logs, keep the crane clean.
- Compliance: Follow LOLER 1998, PUWER, and company safety rules.
Requirements – UK 2026
- Qualifications: CPCS A77 Crane Operator – Mini Crawler Cranes, or NPORS N418. CPCS blue card preferred for site work.
- Experience: 1-3 years operating spider cranes. Experience with glass lifting, glazing, and tight access work is a plus.
- Tickets: CSCS card, IPAF/PASMA if working at height, First Aid is a bonus.
- Knowledge: Safe load indicators, load charts, slinging basics, site rules.
- Skills: Good hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, communication, works well under pressure.
Typical Day
- Morning: Check crane, complete pre-start checks, attend site briefings.
- Work: Position crane, set outriggers, carry out lifts for steel, glass, M&E, or landscaping.
- End of shift: Park crane safely, complete paperwork, report any issues.
