Middle School for the 2026-27 school year. This position is considered interim as the position responsibilities, structure, and title of this position may change for the 2027-2028 school year.

  • Position Summary
  • The administrative focus of the

Middle School Dean of Students is to assist the Middle and Upper School Director in providing leadership and guidance to students during the academic year, as we continue fulfilling our mission of educating gifted students in an intellectually engaging environment.

The administrative responsibilities for the Dean of Students - Middle School are concentrated on students in grades 6 – 8, While this role will primarily focus on the middle school, an awareness and understanding of the full campus experience and comfort working with upper school students is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Middle and Upper School Director in the development, implementation, maintenance, management and evaluation of key educational areas including academic and social practices, protocols, and policies that support student development, learning, discipline, health, and safety.
  • Work with administrative, learning support and academic team members, grade level coordinators, and homeroom advisors, and teachers to coordinate academic and social-emotional support for students.
  • Collaborate with the Director and grade coordinators to develop and deliver programming to welcome and integrate students new to the school, including but not limited to the sixth-grade student and family orientation.
  • In collaboration with the Academic Director, oversee and supervise advisory program and community blocks including facilitation of curriculum and providing support and guidance to advisors and faculty
  • Communicate with parents regarding student issues.
  • Report and seek appropriate assistance with addressing inappropriate conduct, infractions, disciplinary issues of other similar matters in timely manner
  • Support the Academic Director in addressing allegations and reports of social and academic infractions
  • Assist in the investigation, document, address allegations and/or reports or suspicions of inappropriate conduct, infractions or disciplinary issues
  • Facilitate and manage conflict resolution between students.
  • In partnership with office staff, teachers, and Director, serve as the point person for student attendance issues, including family outreach, meeting facilitation, and documentation.
  • Appropriately document reports, handling, follow up and outcome or resolution of situations, including notification of appropriate school personnel and communication with parents and guardians
  • Read the student progress updates and reports to maintain familiarity with student progress
  • Support the Admissions team in discussions of prospective students
  • Serve as a member of the campus crisis team and be familiar with all emergency and safety protocols.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating, supporting, and coaching students.

The ideal candidate will have experience in student conflict management and resolution through the implementation of restorative practices.

  • Exhibits poise, tact, and diplomacy to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • Strong attention to detail in establishing priorities, meeting timelines, and efficiently accomplishing duties
  • Ability to form collaborative work relationships
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency work and to perform responsibilities in accordance with Roeper's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Education Administration, or related field
  • Three to five years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
