Van Orton Recovery is an American fraud recovery intelligence firm specializing in cross-border investigations and recoveries. We are looking for investigators based in the United Kingdom to work remotely with their US counterparts. This role does not require a private investigator license. The right candidate will have outstanding English reading and writing skills, meticulous attention to detail, a sense of curiosity, the ability and enthusiasm to learn quickly, and a dedication to client satisfaction.
Day-to-day Responsibilities:
- Conduct increasingly complex English language research using public record databases, commercial and proprietary databases, media sources and the Internet.
- Utilize commercial and proprietary software to track stolen assets through complex laundering networks and engage with relevant third parties to pursue recovery.
- Analyze and synthesize relevant research findings.
- Write well-structured, concise, logical and objective reports to provide clients with an accurate assessment of the findings.
- Manage multiple investigations from start to finish in a fast-paced environment.
- Engage with clients regularly and maintain the high customer experience quality we are known for.
- Utilize complex Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques to investigate identities and entities linked to the investigations.
- Pursue and obtain non-public intelligence through legal investigative methods.
Essential Traits:
- Native or equivalent English language proficiency in reading comprehension.
- Extremely strong English-language writing skills.
- Ability to conduct online research using various primary and secondary sources.
- Ability to quickly and effectively summarize information from multiple sources into concise analytical assessments.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Ability to understand, accept and apply constructive feedback.
- Responsible for managing and prioritizing several projects or assignments simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Undergraduate or graduate degrees, especially in the related fields, are preferred but not required if you have sufficient skills and professional experience.
- Organizational and time management competencies.
- Attention to detail and perfectionism.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Professional experience or skills in investigative journalism, cybersecurity incident response, red teaming, smart contract exploitation, federal law enforcement (US/UK/EU), forensic accounting, or cyber threat research are pluses that can make your application stand out.
- Interest in and understanding of current events, digital fraud trends, international affairs, financial regulations, and economics and/or finance.
- Basic knowledge of litigation, regulatory, sanctions, and corporate organization/structure terminology and concepts is required.
- Intermediate knowledge of OSINT, cyber threats, cryptocurrency terminology and blockchains, social engineering, and cryptocurrency regulations is required.
- 1-2 years of relevant professional experience (including internships) is required but candidates with 3+ years of experience will be prioritized.
- Your experience as an independent researcher, journalist, or investigator may also count as professional experience.
Base Salary: GBP 36,780 – GBP 55,170 yearly. The posted range represents the typical compensation range for this role. To determine actual compensation we review the market rate of each candidate which can include a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and location. Please note: You must be located physically in the United Kingdom.
