About this opportunity
This opportunity may suit a Director or experienced SM/AD within another professional practice who has ambitions for development to Partnership.
Following changes and growth in their already successful Private Client Tax team, we are helping them search for an ambitious, credible and experienced Director to lead this function into its next phase.
Growth in recent years has been impressive (66% headcount growth in their Thames Valley Tax team since year-ending 2020), and they have exciting plans concerning future development of Private Client Tax services.
Overseeing the delivery of a ‘best-in-class’ service via management of a talented team, this unique leadership opportunity will also involve the development and execution of an astute and forward-thinking business strategy – encompassing business development, workforce and succession planning and the guidance and development of their people.
They envisage that typical duties and responsibilities expected in the successful execution of this role would include:
- Leading the team, being responsible for the delivery of high-quality Private Client Tax work.
- Guiding and advising colleagues in all technical tax matters, using your experience to empower the team.
- Being the ‘go-to’ in the firm, and in the local market, for all matters relating to private client tax including;
UK resident and non-domiciled tax matters, international clients, property, income tax, capital gains tax, IHT, trusts and estates, HNWIs, etc. - Development of a robust business plan and service line strategy to capably manage all client work. To include a business development strategy to secure new clients and further work among existing clients.
- Working closely with Partners and Directors in other service lines to make clients aware of relevant tax changes that affect them.
- Building meaningful relationships with clients – being seen as a trusted advisor, crucial to their interests. Be ultra-responsive and approachable to clients, anticipating their needs and delivering to a timetable.
- Skilfully manage client expectations providing realistic fee quotes and regular updates on assignments.
- Effectively manage fees and time costs to achieve agreed recoverability targets. You’ll provide updates and manage expectations on this both externally and internally.
- Taking steps to minimise professional risk, including the appropriate documentation of services provided,obtain second opinions and following well established internal risk management processes.
- Preparing comprehensive and skilfully tailored reports for all clients irrespective of their background, knowledge and experience.
- Being a Firm brand advocate – embody our core values and principles in all of your activities including external events, set an example for our aspiring people and your peers.
- Provide thought-leadership to external and internal audiences via multiple channels, including social media, article writing, event organisation and direct updates to clients and colleagues.
- Other ad-hoc duties aligned to business requirements, client demands and Partner requests

- Be a motivating and empowering leader, developing and training your people in line with a sound succession plan
