In a variety of adult social care settings within the local community, or on individualised day trips. Support to and from venues when travelling is required.

Current placements are on a care farm x2 days per week; at a care and social venue x 2 days per week, doing woodwork, computer skills, walking or swimming, and a 'free day' doing dog walking or any activity he would like to do, such as cinema, bowling, high ropes, kayaking, paddleboarding etc.

Job Purpose: To provide safe, reliable, and person-centred care and support to enable a 22 year old energetic young man to engage in meaningful activities as independently as possible, maintain dignity, and participate in daily and community life according to his wishes and needs. To ensure that he remains safe at all times, particularly regarding his epilepsy, keeping him safe and providing reassurance should he have a seizure and supporting him to decide whether he remains at the activity or needs to return home. To support the young man to understand social norms and acceptable behaviour and how to express his needs and wants. The young man uses an AAC (communication) device so supporting him to find what he wants to say or choosing the correct symbols on the device to support his understanding. To provide him with a companion in his daily activities and to be a source of inspiration, comfort and friendship.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support access to the community, work and social activities
  • Encourage independence, choice, and control
  • Promote health, safety, and wellbeing at all times
  • Follow agreed care/support plans and risk assessments
  • Assist with or administer emergency medication where trained to do so
  • Communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality
  • Work flexibly and undertake training as required

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Caring, respectful, and patient approach
  • Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable:

  • Experience in a care or support role
  • Relevant training or qualifications in social care support and management of epilepsy
  • Full UK driving licence

Working Hours: As agreed with the employer but generally Monday to Friday, 8.30 til 4pm.
