We are seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our new team of Personal Carers to provide high-quality support for a young female who is a full-time wheelchair user Deaf, and partially sighted. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working within the care sector, and a strong understanding of the unique needs associated with neurological conditions and hearing impairments is desired, but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and daily living assistance (e.g., bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting)
  • Communicate effectively using a speech-to-text app on the client\’s phone. Must be willing to engage in the client\’s sign language lessons with a qualified communicator, to provide a better long-term way for her to communicate with you.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and physical therapies as required
  • Support with daily living activities around the home where required, including helping the client prep and cook meals.
  • Support clients with medication management and health monitoring
  • Facilitate social interaction and community engagement
  • Maintain accurate records and report on client progress or concerns
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, families, and support teams
  • Foster an environment that promotes dignity, respect, and independence

Requirements

  • Previous care experience
  • Experience caring for deaf individuals and clients with neurological conditions (preferred)
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) or relevant sign language (preferred)
  • Understanding of neurological disorders and associated care requirements (preferred)
  • NVQ Level 2 (or above) in Health and Social Care or equivalent (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to use own initiative
  • Patience, empathy, and a person-centred approach
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends (client happy to work flexibly around the team where possible when doing the rota)
  • Valid driver’s licence & must be willing to drive clients\’ adapted car (large van)
  • Up-to-date DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
