About the employer
The client is a thirty-four-year-old who lives with chronic health conditions, most notably non-epileptic seizures (also known as non-epileptic attack disorder) and hemiplegic migraines. These conditions have a significant impact on her daily life and as such, she requires help and support, both within her home environment and to access social activities. She has a passion for music and singing and enjoys getting out and about in the countryside. She regularly attends a local long covid support group and enjoys socialising with others. She also enjoys doing arts and crafts and baking.
Job purpose
To support the client with a variety of tasks which will enable and assist her to meet her full potential while being supported in a safe and supportive way. To ensure that the client’s care needs and support needs are met enabling her to live her personal and social life according to the client’s wishes and interests.
Main duties
- Social duties, for example:
- Support to attend medical appointments.
- Accompany the client to access social activities when she is in the community, for example, when attending singing workshops or attending the long covid group.
- Safely attend social events such as going to the cinema or concerts.
- Support to socialise with family and friends.
- Offer support and supervise hobbies such as baking and arts and crafts.
- To shower safely, due to seizures.
- Support with continence needs e.g. assist with changing pad.
- Support oral hygiene for example cleaning teeth when required.
- Support washing and dressing when required.
- Support to prompt medication and administer medication.
- Support to order medication.
- Support with grocery shopping.
- Supervise and support cooking and serving meals and snacks and ensuring the client drinks plenty and has drinks to hand.
- Support with cleaning around the flat, changing linen, doing laundry and ironing.
You may be requested to undertake other duties to ensure that the care remains consistent and safe. These duties may vary from day to day.
Person specification
You should be a non-judgemental, adaptable, honest and compassionate person. You should be able to demonstrate that you are able to build a good friendly relationship and have a good understanding of professional boundaries. You should have experience of giving person centred care, placing the care of the client at the centre of what you do. You should be flexible and able to respond in a calm manner in an emergency, monitor and understand the client’s care needs and be able to recognise signs of an unwell person and therefore respond appropriately to ensure safety. You should be able to work independently and also in collaboration with other services that support the client’s needs. It would be helpful for you to have some understanding of the client’s condition and an understanding of seizures and how to manage them. You should have a willingness to travel and be willing to undertake training and learning opportunities. You should have a good understanding of legislation for example, Mental Capacity Act, disabilities discrimination, and human rights act. You should have a good understanding of medication and administration. You should hold a valid DBS or be willing to undertake one.

Hours of work
Hours to be agreed, there is expectation to work over 7 days covering weekends, evenings and holiday cover. Flexible hours to be mutually agreed.

- Good at building relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of settings and situations.

- Ability to be watchful and then proactive to the client’s changing symptoms to ensure their safety.
- Understanding of care plans and the ability to implement them accurately.
