I am looking for a full-time live-in carer for my mother.
She is 81 and has Alzheimer’s Dementia. Still fiercely independent but has got to the stage that she needs somebody present to help her with day-to-day life.
She has severe arthritis in her knees and hips so has low mobility, but can manage with sticks and has a stair lift.
I am looking for somebody with excellent communication skills (she is deaf so the applicant will have to be easy to understand), and somebody who has experience in dealing with dementia and understands that patience will be required.
The property is her own home, a 3-bedroom terraced house in SE18. The applicant will have their own room with a television but will be expected to also keep mum company at times, and to regularly and routinely check on her.
Some light housework and cooking will be required. No gourmet meals but will need to be able have rudimentary cooking skills.
Medication will be on a reminder-only basis, there is no expectation to administer.
No personal care is required other than prompting. She is continent during the day but occasionally incontinent at night (urine only) so her bed and clothes may occasionally need changing.
Food allowance can be provided on an expensed back basics, or can be added to the weekly shop.
Any leave will require 7 days’ notice to allow temporary care to be found.
I anticipate this to be quite a relaxed position, the main requirement is that someone is present, kind and patient.
