Senior Platform Engineer | Go, g RPC, Kubernetes | Consumer Mobile Tech Reaching Tens of Millions a Month
- Location: Hybrid, 2 days a week in a central East London office
- UK right to work required (sponsorship not available for this role)
I'm working with a consumer mobile tech scale-up whose products reach tens of millions of people every month, and they're adding a Senior Platform Engineer to their backend team.
It's a new role in a 14-person team the business rates as its highest performing, building the Go services that sit behind their Android products.
You'll own services in production, help shape the APIs the Android and backend teams build on, and mentor less experienced engineers.
It's hybrid, with two days a week in a central East London office.
Go is the one thing they won't move on.
They also want someone easy to talk to who understands the commercial side, because you'll work with non-technical colleagues as much as with other engineers.
- What They're Looking For (Non-Negotiables)
- Go (Golang): production systems you've built and maintained
- Databases: relational and non-relational, e. g. Postgre SQL and Dynamo DB
- Production ownership: monitoring, troubleshooting, leading incidents
- Design and architecture: multi-component solutions, non-functional requirements
- Code review and mentoring
- Communication: explaining technical work and its business value
- What You'll Work With
- g RPC
- Microservices
- AWS
- Git
- Nice to Haves
- Terraform
- Docker
- Observability: metrics, logging, tracing
- CI/CD: Git Hub Actions
- Unit and automation testing
- Open source contributions
- Why Join / Projects
- You'll join a new role in a team of 14 that the business describes as its highest performing.
- You'll work across lots of different projects on the platform and the apps, which they say is why over 80% of their engineers stay longer than four and a half years.
- Your services will run at consumer scale, with tens of millions of monthly users.
- You'll only be in the office two days a week, with some flex on which days.
The process includes a Go technical test that you'll present and talk through in person, so it suits engineers who are comfortable explaining their own code and the thinking behind it.
- Employee Benefits
- Company profit share scheme
- Up to 8% employer pension
- Annual personal learning budget for training, courses and conferences
- Well Hub (Gym Pass) Gold: gym, fitness classes and wellness apps
- Cycle to work scheme
- Breakfast in the office every Wednesday and haircuts every two weeks
- Regular socials, sports and activities
