Priory Hospital Market Weighton has an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our team. Based in East Yorkshire, Priory Hospital Market Weighton is a level 2 rehabilitation hospital for adult males, offering bespoke and flexible therapeutic programmes focused on stabilisation, skill acquisition, personal development, community integration, and developing competence and confidence in living skills. We also have close links to Priory Adult Care community services to develop discharge pathways out of the hospital.

What you'll be doing:

  • You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients' wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future.
  • You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.
  • Assists qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed to facilitate the wellbeing, dignity and treatment of all patients.
  • Provides practical support and responsive care to patients who require assistance with intimate personal needs such as dressing, bathing and toileting activities ensuring that such activities comply with procedures and the relevant healthcare legislation.
  • Observes and monitors the wellbeing of patients ensuring that any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff/the primary nurse and documented as appropriate.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Good standard of education (NVQ Level 1 or GCSEs in Maths and English).
  • Compassionate, caring and patient-focused approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic IT skills and accurate record-keeping.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Flexible approach to working shifts, including weekends and nights where required.
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory training and continuous professional development.

The following experience would be beneficial:

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare, care home or mental health setting.
  • Experience supporting individuals with personal care needs.
  • Knowledge of person-centred care and safeguarding practices.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviours or supporting patients with complex needs.
  • Experience working alongside Registered Nurses or within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of de-escalation techniques and patient observation practices.
