What you'll be doing

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients' wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

  • Assists qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities to facilitate the wellbeing, dignity and treatment of all patients.
  • Provides practical support and responsive care to patients who require assistance with intimate personal needs such as dressing, bathing and toileting activities ensuring compliance with procedures and relevant healthcare legislation.
  • Observes and monitors patients' wellbeing, promptly referring any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences to senior staff or the primary nurse and documenting as appropriate.
  • Provides specific interventions with patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse, following training and competency attainment (e.g., Observation and Engagement with Patients, escorting patients on leave, involvement in de‑escalation and management of violence and aggression).
  • Contributes to a team approach to patient care with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participates in regular ward meetings and attends other meetings as requested.
  • Assists in maintaining stock levels, including pharmaceutical products.
  • Assists in maintaining ward cleanliness and tidiness, adhering to infection control policy and procedures at all times.
  • Develops and maintains a good professional relationship with patients, colleagues and visitors, responding promptly and courteously to requests and enquiries.
  • Helps promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
  • Ensures service users receive a quality service that offers value for money.
  • Receives and conveys information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner, ensuring all persons visiting the ward are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.

What you'll bring to the role

Our work is rewarding but challenging, so resilience is key. Your natural empathy will help you support others through both the highs and lows. As a critical member of the ward team, you will support and assist Registered Nurses in the assessment, planning and implementation of patient care, deliver care to the patient as prescribed by the individual care plans and liaise with family members as appropriate. Working a set shift pattern of 12.5‑hour shifts, every other weekend included to cover 13 shifts a month. The nature of the role necessitates frequent interaction with staff, patients and visitors on the ward involving the regular exchange of routine information in person and over the telephone. Well‑developed observational and listening skills are essential for monitoring the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of patients. Educated to a minimum NVQ 1 or GCSEs in Mathematics and English. Understands the need for strict confidentiality. Basic IT literacy.
