Qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse with 2+ years post‑registration experience within Mental Health or Learning Disability services. This role is not suitable for newly qualified nurses or preceptorship nurses.

Priory Burston House, located in the historic market town of Diss, near the border of Suffolk, provides level 2 rehabilitation for male patients with a learning disability. Our specialist learning disability service also cares for adults who may have complex mental health needs, including autism and personality disorders.

While transport links to the hospital are somewhat limited, a local bus service runs just past the site, providing accessible public transport for staff and visitors travelling from surrounding areas. The location remains reachable by public transport, although candidates may find access easier if travelling by car or planning their journey in advance.

What you'll be doing

  • Deliver high-quality, person‑centred nursing care to a defined group of patients by assessing, planning, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating care in partnership with patients and their families.
  • Act as the named nurse and respond to individual needs and choices.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and external professionals, contributing to a multidisciplinary team approach and supporting quality improvement and clinical governance processes.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records, escalating concerns appropriately, and providing accessible information about care.
  • Support, supervise, and mentor junior, new, agency, and student staff, undertaking leadership responsibilities such as Nurse in Charge, Bed Manager, Site Coordinator, or ward lead roles when required.
  • Prioritise and delegate nursing duties effectively to maintain a safe environment, complete mandatory training and professional development requirements, and participate in regular clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Build positive professional relationships and respond appropriately to concerns, complaints, and challenging behaviour while adhering to safeguarding procedures, the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Medicines Management policies, Priory Group policies, and the NMC Code at all times.
  • Join the team on the Forensic ward, with possible occasional requests to assist on other wards. Play a key part in patient recovery, supporting the assessment and delivery of tailored treatment plans while ensuring dignity, respect, and high standards of care.

What you'll bring to the role

  • Qualified Registered Adult Nurse with 6‑12 months post‑registration experience and active NMC registration; completed preceptorship or equivalent programme.
  • Knowledge of NMC standards, guidelines, and professional practice.
  • Evidence of post‑registration continuing professional development.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and commitment to change, improvement and quality.
  • Ability to develop and use flexible and innovative approaches to practice.
