Role Overview
Full‑time 37.5 hours a week | Site‑based. Pay ranges from £39,392 to £41,953, depending on experience. An enhanced rate is offered for evenings and weekends. Qualified Registered Adult Nurse with 6‑12 months post‑registration experience and active NMC Registration required. Must have completed preceptorship or equivalent programme. Knowledge of NMC standards, guidelines, requests and professional practices is essential. This role is not suitable for newly qualified nurses or preceptorship nurses.
You will work on the Male PICU ward, supporting patients in a severe phase of illness not managed in acute services. Our PICU services support people with complex needs, challenging behaviours and co‑existing issues such as substance misuse. In Bristol, evidence‑based treatment for addictions (alcohol, drug, gambling, internet, shopping) is offered through a dedicated inpatient counselling service. The ward is located 5 minutes from Bristol Parkway train station and 10 minutes from Bristol Temple Meads station, with nearby motorway access to South West, Wales and London.
Responsibilities
- The post holder will provide high‑quality, person‑centred nursing care to a defined group of patients/service users, acting as the named nurse.
- Responsibilities include assessment, planning, delivery, review and evaluation of care in partnership with patients and families/carers; collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; liaison with external professionals and stakeholders; maintaining accurate clinical records and incident reporting; participation in quality improvement and clinical governance activities; ensuring compliance with safeguarding procedures, legislation, medicines management policies and the NMC Code; supervision of junior, agency and student staff; leadership duties including acting as Nurse in Charge, Bed Manager or Site Coordinator; and effective prioritisation and delegation to maintain a safe clinical environment.
- The role also involves clinical supervision, reflective practice, continuing professional development and revalidation, and promotion of effective communication, professional relationships and safe management of challenging behaviour.
