We offer specialist mental health care to people who are unwell and are considered to be unable to look after themselves in the community. We provide specialist assessment, treatment and care to patients with severe mental illness, complex needs and those who require an environment with security and safety. Priory's acute and PICU services aim to allow more people to be treated closer to home and we support the NHS to repatriate out-of-area patients back to local areas.
Main duties of the job
- You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients' wellbeing.
- We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future.
- You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.
- Ensure that all patients are receiving physical healthcare assessments on admission, and that their care needs are commensurate with the assessment and consistent with pre-existing care plans; this includes obtaining relevant historical information, test results etc. in partnership with medical colleagues.
- Document all individual patient contacts in their Electronic Clinical record promptly, escalating information to medical and other nursing colleagues as required.
- Provide briefing and support to Registered nurses at the site regarding the physical healthcare needs in general terms; this includes chronic disease management, screening programmes, diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and wound management.
- Provide training and support to staff regarding the use of physical healthcare measurement tools, e.g. Waterlow.

Job responsibilities
Priory Hospital Enfield is looking to recruit a Physical Healthcare Nurse to join the team. This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours a week. Located in Edmonton, North London, Priory Hospital Enfield offers acute and secure services for adult females. We have two medium secure wards, one low secure and one acute ward.
Person Specification Requirements
- The ideal candidate will be a qualified Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a minimum of two years post-registration experience, active NMC registration, and completion of a preceptorship programme.
- Consideration will also be given to nurses registered in Mental Health or Learning Disability services who can demonstrate competence in the requirements of the role.
- The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of NMC guidelines and professional practice, evidence of ongoing post-registration continuing professional development, and a positive, proactive approach to change, improvement, and quality.
- They will demonstrate flexible and innovative practice, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have at least two years experience within a physical healthcare environment.
- Registration as a Non-Medical Prescriber is desirable.
