Priory Hospital Enfield is looking to recruit a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the team on one of our wards. This is a full time role of 37.5 hours per week. Located in Edmonton, North London, Priory Hospital Enfield offers acute and secure services for adult females. We have two medium secure wards, one low secure and one acute ward. We offer specialist mental health care to people who are unwell and are considered to be unable to look after themselves in the community. We offer specialist assessment, treatment and care to patients with severe mental illness, complex needs and people who require an environment with security and safety. Priory’s acute and PICU services aim to allow more people to be treated closer to home and we support the NHS to repatriate out-of-area patients back to local areas.
What you'll be doing
You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients’ wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.
- Supports the lead OT in co-ordinating the implementation of individual treatment plans for occupational therapy services ensuring treatments, activities and interventions are delivered through effective application and communication.
- Receives and responds promptly to referrals undertaking patient assessments to identify and prioritise patient needs before planning and delivering the appropriate and relevant interventions either on an individual or group basis.
- Maintains accurate and timely records detailing each patient's rehabilitation / progress.
- Leads in a specific area with some responsibility for service and team performance; creative problem solver; supervises staff/students; consistently undertakes self-development.
- Ensures the effective and efficient management of junior staff.
What you'll bring to the role
Our work is rewarding but can be challenging, so resilience is key. No two days are the same! Your natural empathy will help you support others through both the highs and lows. The ideal candidate will hold a Diploma in Occupational Therapy, along with a Degree, Honours Degree, or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy, and be accredited by the HCPC. A minimum of 3 years of experience in mental health is required. The candidate should be a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and demonstrate the ability to think critically and reflect on professional judgments, especially in complex and unpredictable contexts, seeking guidance from peers and more experienced colleagues when necessary. Active listening skills and the ability to seek the views of others to promote shared decision-making are essential. Prior exposure to working in an Occupational Therapy setting as a qualified staff member is also a requirement for this role.
